When & where are the Open Call Auditions?

What time should I arrive to Open Call Auditions?

Prior to being able to be seen by the Audition Judges, you must register, the same day as the Open Call Audition, at the Audition Location. Please make sure to have all your completed paperwork with you. We will only have a limited number of copies at the Audition Locations.

Registration will begin at 9:00am at each Audition Location. You may arrive earlier to wait in line, but please note most Audition Locations will not permit anyone to line up prior to 7:00am. Absolutely NO overnight camping out is permitted.

Unless otherwise notified directly by a producer or casting associate, Open Call Auditions start promptly at 10:00AM at each Audition Location and will continue until approximately 6:00pm at each Audition Location.  To help your chances of being seen, please arrive to the Audition Location no later than 2:00PM. We want to try and see everybody, but there are NO guarantees depending on casting event turnout. Again, the Audition Judges will only be able to see a limited number of applicants at each Audition Location, so arrive early. 

ALL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE AUDITIONS IS TENTATIVE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE CONTINUE TO CHECK THE SITE AT https://makingthebandcasting.com FOR UPDATES.

PLEASE BE COURTEOUS TO OTHER PEOPLE IN LINE. DO NOT CUT IN LINE. IF WE DISCOVER THAT YOU HAVE CUT IN FRONT OF ANOTHER PERSON IN LINE, YOU MAY BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE AUDITION PROCESS. Also, you may not hold a place in line for another person for an extended period of time. 

What paperwork do I need to bring with me? In order to participate in the auditions and complete registration, you will be required to fill out, sign and agree to all of the terms and conditions of the application packet, including the Appearance Release. We will only have a limited number of forms available at the venue for applicants to fill out and sign, so please be sure to bring everything with you. ALL FORMS MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY AND TRUTHFULLY. IF YOU FAIL TO COMPLETE ANY FORM, GIVE ANY FALSE INFORMATION, OR FAIL TO REVEAL ANY PERTINENT INFORMATION, YOU MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE AUDITION PROCESS AND/OR THE PROGRAM, EVEN IF ALREADY SELECTED TO COMPETE. 

How old do you have to be to apply? You must be at least 18 years of age or older at the date of the audition and/or submission of your Video Audition (as applicable), whichever occurs first. If you are attending an Open Call Audition, you must bring two (2) valid forms of identification showing proof of your age and photo identification (e.g., a certified copy of your birth certificate, driver’s license, passport, etc.) and/or your Social Security card, in connection with your participation in the Program. 

What if my ID/ Driver License is lost / missing? You must bring a certified copy of your birth certificate and a school ID (for students) or any other picture ID that matches your name on your birth certificate 

Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to apply? You must be a U.S. citizen, a legal permanent U.S. resident, or possess the appropriate U.S. employment authorization that permits you to participate and compete in the Program and engage in any post-Program agreements and/or related employment in the U.S. 

What should I wear to the auditions? Dress to impress our Audition Judges and casting directors. Please do NOT wear any clothing items revealing any tattoos, bearing designer logos, sports or any other logos or brand names, copyrighted images, or bearing the name or likeness of a celebrity (living or dead), or inappropriate messages or words (for example, profanity). If you do wear such clothing to an in-person audition, you may be required to remove it or turn it inside out or put on additional clothing. 

*NOTE: Make sure you wear something that will make you stand out and look like a superstar, but comfortable enough to move/dance in. If you are invited to a Callback, you will need to wear the same outfit. 

What should I sing at the auditions? You must perform without music (a capella) one or more songs from the list found at  https://makingthebandcasting.com/required-song-list/ If you receive a Callback, you may be asked to perform an additional song(s) (which may be the same song or different song(s) from the first day), one of which may or may not be from a list that will be provided to you by the Producer at that time. The other song, if requested by Producer, may be a song of your choice. You may be asked to sing with backing tracks and/or a cappella. 

Will everyone in line have the opportunity to audition? Although we would love to audition everyone who registers, it may be impossible given time constraints built into our schedule. There is no guarantee that everyone who registers will be given the opportunity to audition. If time is running short, Producer may select people to audition (regardless of how early they arrived) based on performing ability, style, personality and other factors, at Producer’s sole discretion. 

Are auditions by appointment or is it “cattle call” style? Open Call Auditions are not by appointment. However, there may be a limited number of Invitation Auditions at any or all of the Audition Locations. If you receive an invitation to audition, you must arrive to the Audition Location at the time specified in your invitation. Everyone auditioning, Open Call Auditions and/or Invitation Auditions, in each Audition Location will audition on the same date(s), during the same designated place during the times determined by the Producers. Producer may, at its sole and absolute discretion, select any eligible person to advance further in the audition process and/or participate in the Making the Band TV show regardless of whether the eligible person has attended any of the audition cities listed above or auditioned in any other manner available (e.g., online auditions or live auditions). 

Am I allowed to bring a guest? Due to space limitations, unfortunately, guests are not permitted at any of the Audition Locations. 

Do you charge for the auditions, wristbands or seat tickets (if applicable)? No. Auditions are free. You just have to be physically present to audition. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR WRISTBANDS AND THEY ARE NOT FOR SALE. IF SOMEONE APPROACHES YOU TRYING TO BUY OR SELL A WRISTBAND, PLEASE ADVISE A MEMBER OF PRODUCTION STAFF IMMEDIATELY. 

Why do I need a wristband? It is currently anticipated that wristbands, or some other form of identification designated by Producer, will be handed out to those people chosen by the Producer to continue in the audition process on the Open Call Audition day. In order to be admitted to the venue on the Open Call Audition day, you MUST register and receive a wristband from a production staff member. IF YOU RECEIVE A WRISTBAND FROM THE PRODUCERS DURING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS, YOU MUST NOT REMOVE THE WRISTBAND PRIOR TO YOUR AUDITION. REMOVING YOUR WRISTBAND MAKES IT NULL AND VOID. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR WRISTBAND IN ORDER TO AUDITION. YOU MUST NOT GIVE THE WRISTBAND TO ANOTHER PERSON OR ACCEPT A WRISTBAND FROM SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE PRODUCTION STAFF. IF IT IS FOUND THAT YOU RECEIVED YOUR WRISTBAND FROM SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE PRODUCTION STAFF, OR THAT YOUR WRISTBAND HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH IN ANY MANNER, YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED FROM THE AUDITION PROCESS. 

Will there be parking at the Audition Locations? There may be a charge for parking at each Audition Location. The parking fees are set and collected by facilities.  Producer has nothing to do with the parking fees or facilities. It is highly likely that you will have to pay for parking each time you come in and out of the parking structure. For example, if you leave the parking structure to go out and purchase food and then return, you will probably have to pay again. 

Will there be anywhere to purchase food and drinks while in line at the Audition Locations or waiting for my audition? We will not be providing food or drink at any Audition Location and cannot guarantee there will be outside food and/or drink available for purchase. We will have water available and some snacks, but please be sure to eat something prior to coming to the auditions and you may also be permitted to bring a sack lunch (but no coolers are permitted). It would also be a good idea to bring some bottled water with you to the line on audition day; it is important to eat before you get in line and stay hydrated while you’re in line in order to keep your energy level up! 

Can I audition in more than one city? You are welcome to attend Open Call Auditions in more than one city; however, you should be aware that the audition process and the number of people we see in each city may be different. Audition Locations are subject to change or cancellation at any time, please check the website for the most current information https://makingthebandcasting.com. You can also audition for Making the Band Online Auditions, for which further information is available at https://makingthebandcasting.com. 

If I have a manager or agent for anything entertainment-related or a contract for my performing services, can I still audition? You may audition if you currently have a manager or agent, provided that such representation was in place before the date of your initial audition. Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of Producer that you do not have any contractual arrangement that would prohibit you from fully participating in the show and/or entering into any contracts required by Producer, including, but not limited to, an exclusive recording contract, merchandising contract, a live and/or global touring agreement and an exclusive management contract. 

What can I bring with me to the auditions? The list below is not exhaustive and even if an item is listed below, the producers and security reserve the right to ask you to remove any such items from the Audition Location. Any items you bring are you responsibility and all bags are subject to search: 

Blankets; 

Bottled water;

Snacks/sack lunch

Cell phones – However, all cell phones must be turned off during the audition process and absolutely no photos or videos are permitted at any Audition Location 

Hats (without visible logos);

Small bags;

Small umbrellas (outdoor venues only);

Sunglasses 

Sunscreen 

What should I NOT bring with me to the auditions? The list of prohibited items below is not exhaustive and even if an item is not listed below, the Producers and security reserve the right to ask you to remove any such item from the venue. People in possession of prohibited items will be denied admission to the line and to the venue, and may be subject to immediate disqualification. All bags are subject to search:

Coolers;

Tents; 

Alcohol;

Weapons;

Drugs;

NO WEAPONS, ALCOHOL OR NON-PRESCRIPTION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES WILL BE PERMITTED AT ANY AUDITION OR DURING THE COMPETITION. What should we prepare for the dance portion of the audition? If you are asked to come back to Day 2 for the Dancing Auditions, you will be required to dance. Choreography will be taught on that second day. Make sure you are comfortable dancing in your shoes. Remember you must wear the same outfit on the second day as in your initial audition. However, you may bring a change of shoes for dancing, if you prefer. 

How do we know if we get a callback? If you do not receive a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ at the time of your initial audition, you will be notified on the same day of the Open Call Audition, no later than midnight, if you will be asked back for the Dancing Audition. Make sure to provide us with the best number to reach you in case we need to contact you last minute. Producer is under no obligation to contact you if you will not be asked back.

If I am traveling from out of town, will you be providing hotels? If you live outside of the audition city, and you plan to attend our casting call, it is your responsibility to provide your own room/board and travel accommodations. The show does not pay for these accommodations during the audition process. 

Can I bring a musical instrument with me to the first round of auditions? Use of musical instruments will NOT be allowed at any of the Audition Locations.
